• Bura sugar is the least refined or processed form of sugar or sugarcane juice.

• When the sugarcane juice is boiled, the water or moisture evaporates from the juice, what’s left is the thick sugar syrup which when cooled, hardens and crystallizes. The sugar obtained at this stage is known as bura sugar.

• Since,the process of reduction occurs only once, bura sugar contains more amount of certain nutrients than the white sugar.

• Bura also contains molasses (the brown portion of the sugarcane juice) having certain minerals, although, in small amounts including calcium, vitamins B3, B5, B5 and iron.

• It is often used in ayurvedic prescriptions, mixed with desi ghee and consumed, to maintain digestive tract health.
